The increasing amount of litter in the oceans is one of the most significant forms of marine pollution, posing a serious threat to both marine ecosystems and human health. Over the past 15 years, several EU funding programmes have been launched to address this issue, leading to the development of numerous research projects and practical solutions.

In this context, the Interreg Atlantic Area project Free LitterAT, in collaboration with the Atlantic Action Plan Task Force (Pillar IV), has launched the Free Litter Toolkit, a new resource designed to help coastal communities prevent and reduce marine litter.

This toolkit provides practical solutions, including guidelines, best practices, monitoring tools, clean-up strategies, and awareness materials, to support efforts in tackling marine pollution. By showcasing key EU projects, it facilitates access to innovative solutions and fosters collaboration towards cleaner coasts and a healthier ocean.

This initiative brings together EU projects with tangible solutions, encouraging joint efforts to minimize marine litter and support sustainable coastal communities.
