On International Youth Day 2024, we mark the partnership we have developed by welcoming young volunteers from Interreg Volunteer Youth (IVY). This year we've been hosting Laurent Lelievre since April and until September he is integrated in Interreg Atlantic Area Joint Secretariat.

«During my stay I was particularly marked by the event “Building Tomorrow: Interreg Atlantic Discussed by the Next Generation” organized by the Atlic project at the Santo Tirso Factory, in which I participated. This mission has given me a better understanding of the environmental, economic and social issues facing our communities. As well as the concrete impact that Interreg projects can have on local territories and populations», testifies our volunteer.

The United Nations has celebrated International Youth Day since 1999 on 12th August. Over the last two decades, a wide array of themes were associated to emphasize the important role of young people in the development of a sustainable world such as food security, mental health, intergenerational solidarity and green skills. International Youth Day 2024 is themed “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development”.

IVY is an initiative of the European Commission. Through IVY, young people serve as volunteers in programmes and projects that support European cooperation across borders in a variety of fields – environment, education, research, health, transport, sustainable energy and more. These projects are funded by Interreg programmes, which are also known as European Territorial Cooperation programmes, as part of the European Union’s Regional Policy. In 2024, volunteers can also support the consultations on the future of Interreg.
