The Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) launched a call for evidence to help design the European Oceans Pact in a collaborative and inclusive way and to listen to the views of communities, sectors and public institutions. Inputs can be delivered online by 17 February 2025 (midnight Brussels time).
The European Oceans Pact aims to enhance the blue economy while ensuring sustainable management and governance of our oceans. This initiative is part of the broader political guidelines for the upcoming European Commission from 2024 to 2029, emphasizing the importance of ocean sustainability across various dimensions, and it aims for a single reference framework for all ocean-related policy actions during the Commission’s mandate.
Complete public consultations regarding the European Ocean Pact have been conducted, setting the stage for the upcoming European Maritime Day, taking place in Cork, Ireland, from 21 to 23 May 2025. This event will serve as a significant forum for stakeholders and members of the ocean community to collaboratively explore strategies for the effective implementation of the Pact. Additionally, local iterations of this initiative, known as European Maritime Day in my country, will empower coastal communities to engage actively in the Pact’s implementation and foster a sense of collective ownership among stakeholders and civil society.
