SAFER project met in Cantabria (Spain) during the General Assembly of the Atlantic Arc Commission
The relevant working groups and stakeholders had the opportunity to learn how SAFER aims to improve the innovation performance of the seafood industry
SAFER -Smart Atlantic Seafood Clusters- partners met in Cantabria (Spain) on 13th and 14th June.This meeting, hosted by the Regional Government of Cantabria and with the collaboration of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe, served to present the project to the regions attended the General Assembly of the Atlantic Arc Commission with a clear vision of disseminating project progress and expected results to the relevant working groups and stakeholders.
The 2-day programme of activities also included site visits where partners had the opportunity to see unique facilities like the Environmental Hydraulics Institute "IHCantabria", a joint research center that carries out research, knowledge transfer and training of specialists in the fields of fresh and saltwater; the aquaculture plant of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography focused in fish with experimental modules and industrial production; and the Marine Corrosion Test Site “El Bocal”, a Marine Laboratory located at the shoreline to test, study and analyze the behaviour of different materials and coatings against marine biofouling and corrosion. The programme was completed with the 1st Steering Committee meeting where partners reviewed project progress and next steps.
SAFER aims to improve the innovation performance of the seafood industry by increasing technology adoption and transnational cooperation. This 3-year project, co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, is led by ERNACT and brings together partners from Bretagne (France), Border, Midland and Western (Ireland), Northern Ireland (UK), Norte (Portugal) and Cantabria (Spain).
