MONITOOL project underway after kick-off in Dublin

The research to find new tools for monitoring the chemical status in transitional and coastal waters

Monitool project, the research to find new tools for monitoring the chemical status in transitional and coastal waters under the Water Framework Directive (WFD) is running after its first event in Dublin. The project kick-off meeting took place between 14 and 15 September with the presentation of all work-packages and the partners are already working for the next general meeting.

Will be on May 2018, also in Dublin, coinciding with the International Passive Sampling Workshop and Symposium (IPSW). An exceptional context for MONITOOL to present its first results.

This project, which is finding to improve the water chemical status evaluation under the WFD using passive sampling devices is funded with 1,5M€ provided by Interreg Atlantic Area Programme through the European Regional Development Fund, and will extend until July 2020 when is expected that this methods will be confirmed as a better choice for monitoring the coastal waters than the classical spot water sampling.

Led by Dublin City University (Ireland), MONITOOL has other research partners across the European Atlantic Area, as: Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias (Spain), Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (Portugal), Fundación AZTI (Spain), Institut Français de Recherche pour l’Exploitation de la Mer (France), Centre for the Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (United Kingdom), Università degli Studi di Cagliari (Italy) and Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal). MONITOOL works too with nine local Associated Partners as first stakeholders and end-users of project results.
