This annual conference will host 8 parallel workshops and around 40 project stands, offering a great opportunity for Atlantic stakeholders to meet, seek ways of cooperation and identify funding opportunities and partnerships for their projects.
Five of the Interreg programmes from transnational and cross-border areas (Atlantic Area, North-West Europe, France (Channel) England, 2 Seas and Ireland-Wales) will be represented at a joint exhibition stand to promote the investments made by these programmes in the several maritime strands, as well as provide participants with information on the existing financing opportunities in these areas.
The Interreg Atlantic Area programme will participate in this conference organising a workshop entitled "Setting a bridge between history and modernity of the cultural heritage of the Atlantic Area: from the cities’ maritime military and industrial heritage valorisation to the development of the new nautical tourism activities, products and innovation", moderated by the Joint Secretariat, with the participation of representatives from 2 recently approved projects MMIAH and CAPITEN.
- MMIAH led by Ayuntamiento de Ferrol, aims to preserve the identity of the coastal edge of the Atlantic Area, through the recovery and valorisation of disused maritime, military and industrial heritage.
- CAPITEN led by Brittany Region aims to promote economic development and jobs by enhancing the local natural and cultural heritage and to create an industry cluster to organise its concerted and coherent development.
The second workshop on the theme of social innovation as a strategy for Atlantic Area sustainable and inclusive development will be organized by the Centre for Social Studies of University of Coimbra, on the scope of the also recently approved project ATLANTIC SOCIAL LAB.
- ATLANTIC SOCIAL LAB led by Ayuntamiento de Avilés, will contribute to the creation of a Social Innovation Atlantic Ecosystem which will result in the implementation of new ways and solutions to drive social innovation in the Atlantic Area society.
The 2nd Atlantic Project Award Ceremony will also take place at the event. The award is designed to honour outstanding success stories, achieved by projects in the geographical area covered by the Atlantic Strategy.
Previous winners of this award have included projects from the Interreg Atlantic Area; four 2007-2013 Atlantic Area projects won this award: AtlanticBlueTec, ARCOPOLplaform, BatterieProject and AtPowerCluster.
