Atlantic Area is hosting its first Interreg volunteer

The IVY initiative provides the opportunity for young volunteers to take part in European projects and support cooperation in the EU

Laura Gagliardi, a twenty-six years old girl from Italy, is our first IVY volunteer, working in the Joint Secretariat in Porto from May to September 2019. As an Interreg Reporter, Laura will be contributing to disseminating information on territorial cooperation projects, being a great contribution to help us promote and support Interreg activities.

Laura has degrees in behavioural sciences and international politics and previously worked in different roles in various European countries: at The Royal Society in London, at a cultural foundation in Aquileia, Italy, and in the editorial team of a website in Madrid.

The Interreg Volunteer Youth (IVY) initiative is part of the European Solidarity Corps and is managed by the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR). IVY gives young people aged 18-30 the opportunity to volunteer in transnational projects and aims to promote the benefits and the values of solidarity and cooperation among young people, while fostering a European identity.

The volunteers work in one of the Interreg offices or one of the project partners in European territories and have the chance to get to know the results of European projects directly from the people affected, while contributing to the work of the host organization. Volunteers work as Interreg Project Partners, assisting a specific project, or Interreg Reporters, helping to communicate results and disseminate information on the benefits of cooperation projects.

To learn more about this initiative visit the IVY website.
