REDAWN presents the pilot power plant to recover valuable energy lost in water irrigation systems

The project works to improve the energy efficiency of water networks in the Atlantic regions

REDAWN project - Reducing energy dependency in Atlantic Area water networks - held a public demonstration of their new innovative technology in Cordoba on the 29th of May. During the open day, hosted by project partner FERAGUA, participants had the chance to visit the pilot power plant, which recovers valuable energy lost in water irrigation systems. The plant uses hydraulic microturbines (PAT), which exploit the excess pressure in existing pipe networks to generate extra energy, saving resources and improving the sustainability of the sector. More than fifty professionals and experts coming from all the five countries involved in the project are expected to attend, as well as representatives of the political and public sector landscapes. Included was also a visit to the facilities of the company Nueces de Calonge.

REDAWN aims to improve the energy efficiency of water networks through the installation of innovative micro-hydropower technology, to recover wasted energy in existing pipe networks across irrigation, public water supply, process industry and waste-water networks. With a total budget of EUR 2.9 million, its partnership brings together 15 partners from the 5 countries of the Atlantic Area.
