European Parliament delegation visits ATLAS-WH in Porto
Porto Municipality adressed the importance of a more sustainable territorial management in the Atlantic Area urban centres
A delegation from the European Parliament's Committee on Regional Development was received yesterday by the Municipality of Porto to visit the Interreg Atlantic Area project ATLAS.WH - Heritage in the Atlantic Area: Sustainability of the Urban Heritage Sites.
The Municipality of Porto as leader of this project, presented the work that is being done on the 5 urban centres partners of this Atlantic Area project - Porto, Bordeaux, Firenze, Edinburgh and Santiago de Compostela - aiming at developing new management plans with a focus on the sustainable development of the heritage and life in these cities, a common challenge to all partners.
The topics of governance, tourism and population were recently identified as the main challenges faced nowadays by the World heritage Sites of ATLAS.WH on a recent study coordinated by Santiago de Compostela, entitled Diagnosis Study of Urban World Heritage Sites in the Atlantic Area.
This European Parliament delegation was hosted yesterday by CCDR-N and is visiting the North region of Portugal to learn about the investments in competitiveness through the European funds. During 3 days this delegation will meet also programme managers and projects supported by the programmes Norte 2020 and Compete 2020.
