Atlantic Rivers Tourism Enhancement Strategy (ARTES)
2018-04-13 15:07:15

Rivers and their ecosystem services potential are a relatively untapped resource in many regions across the Atlantic Area. They can act as a catalyst for sustainable economic development in these regions contributing greatly to the attractiveness & viability of their respective communities as a place to live, work and visit.
This project seeks to support the river tourism sector across the Atlantic area, by facilitating collaboration between key stakeholders to enhance these assets and derive greater socio-economic gain from them, recognising them as a valuable wealth creating resource. It will analyse the current situation with respect to the value of the river economy in the partner regions. It will gather best practices from across the partner regions, develop new tourism products and market an Atlantic river tourism trail. Through collaborative efforts the project will activate the river tourism sector and promote the smart, sustainable and inclusive development of this asset across partner regions.
The project partners will promote river related economic activity at the local and transnational level, positioning partner regions as river tourism destinations, promoting new jobs in the river tourism related businesses, while strengthening local strategies for the development of the river tourism & recreation industry.
