Summary

From the very beginning of their conception, digital startups need to be aware that their markets are not only local but European and International. ADSA thus aims at supporting digital startups based in the Atlantic Area (AA), to develop their business outside their regions and countries, at EU level. The AA is considered as a first step towards EU and International business development for digital startups. ADSA will also contribute to the positive image of the AA in terms of digital dynamism.
The digital economy is rapidly growing worldwide. It is the major driver of innovation, competitiveness and growth, and it holds huge potential for European entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Unfortunately, only two percent of European enterprises are currently taking full advantage of new digital opportunities (EC Europa).

Although not widely known, Europe & particularly Atlantic countries have many world success stories in the digital market. Yet these success stories have the potential to grow further and the new startups of the digital economy in Europe need to be supported from their early age, to be able to adapt to and benefit from international opportunities. These success stories also need to be more numerous.

From a market point of view, startups are totally different from traditional businesses. Startups, so-called born global companies, begin exporting their product or services within a couple of years after their founding and may export a quarter or more of their total production.

The overall objective of the Atlantic Digital Startup Academy is thus to encourage Digital startups (young innovative businesses with a high development potential, using digital & Internet technologies with a vision of competitive advantage) from the Atlantic Area to go international, the Atlantic area being seen as a first step for startups to discover Atlantic area markets, to benefit from training to test their offer, and to start business.
