4th Steering Committee meeting of the MMIAH project hosted by Plymouth City Council
Partners had the opportunity to discuss the coming activities and visit relevant Maritime, Military and Industrial assets in the city of Plymouth
During the two-day event organised by Plymouth City Council, the MMIAH - Recovery and valorization of maritime, military and industrial heritage of the Atlantic Area coast- project partners had the opportunity to discuss and plan the methodology of coming activities in the project work plan. The event also included guided tours and visits to relevant Maritime, Military and Industrial assets in the city of Plymouth. MMIAH Partners visited the works of The Box Museum, which will open as the flagship building for the Mayflower 400 commemorations in spring 2020. The Box will permanently display 14 iconic Royal Navy ships figureheads of which 2 will constitute Plymouth City Council’s MMIAH pilot project through intervention for their conservation and reinterpretation. Partners also visited the Plymouth Gin Distillery and went on a guided boat trip from Royal William Yard to Ocean Gate and Barbican in which they learnt about Plymouth’s vibrant naval and industrial past and present. The MMIAH project consortium is formed by 9 partners in 5 countries and is receiving a total of €3.3m funding to develop inclusive, citizen-led tourism through the recovery of abandoned maritime, military and industrial heritage assets across the Atlantic coastal edge. The 9 participating partners will share best practice examples of heritage asset management and will deliver a joint tourism product offering a common vision for maritime, militar and industrial (MMI) heritage tourism leading to new cultural uses for abandoned MMI heritage. The MMIAH project funding will use digital technology, fam and press trips, to promote and enrich the tourism experience and improve citizens’ access to heritage and history.

The Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) in collaboration with the Devolved Administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, are organising a series of workshops addressed to the Atlantic Area Programme applicants.
The Programme Manual to apply to the 2nd stage of the 1st call is now also available for consultation and download in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English.
